This California coastal peak known colorfully as Devil’s Slide houses the crumbling remains of this abandoned cement building that looks as though it is about to fall off the edge and slide into the sea.

The building was originally built during World War II as a triangulation and observing station and was once part of a much bigger facility. When in service, a "watcher" would keep watch out at sea with a set of binoculars. If they spotted any enemy ships, they would radio it in to a gun station with a massive six-inch gun which would sink them before they got too close. With the advent of more modern defense systems, the station became obsolete and was abandoned in 1949.
