Situated in the eastern Higashiyama area, Kiyomizu-dera is one of the most famous and celebrated temples in Japan. The temple was founded in 778 AD and contains buildings from the 17th century, including a main hall seen here while undergoing renovations. Kiyomizudera, literally means "Pure Water Temple" based on the pure waters of Otowa waterfall where it is located.
It is the most iconic temples of Japan and a UNESCO world heritage site.
